Candidate Statement
Diane Lamkin
I have lived in Lake of the Pines (LOP) since October 2020. Like many of you, I chose to live in LOP because I was drawn to the beautiful lake, its surroundings, and the variety of social opportunities and amenities. I am a Geologist by training and the former Supervisor of multiple CalFire burn sites, including Paradise, Palisades, and Ventura.
I am asking for your vote for the LOP Board of Directors because…
I will be an asset to the Board of Directors due to my 1) expertise in Project and Contract Management; 2) previous experience as Treasurer and a keen understanding of the unique financial needs of nonprofits, and 3) commitment to this community. I believe we can do better, and I am stepping up to participate in critical discussions impacting the quality of life at LOP.
I believe there are four areas we can improve on in our community:
1. Immediately address the lake's critical health issues. Sediment removal in the coves should be done immediately and budgeted as ongoing maintenance, not a capital expense. We need a proactive and long-term Lake Management Plan.
2. Conduct a thorough budget review. Determine where cost savings can be implemented, prioritize financial reserves, and take proactive steps to minimize HOA increases unless absolutely necessary.
3. Launch a multidisciplinary approach to Fire Safety. Use the talent and experience within our LOP community to develop a coordinated Fire Prevention and Recovery Plan. This plan should address the needs of homeowners, families, and the elderly, ensuring timely evacuation notifications and clear pathways for emergency vehicle access. In addition, this committee would work with the current Firewise Committee to improve our fire prevention activities.
4. Develop communication channels that encourage greater participation. Provide members the opportunity to vote on significant community decisions (Darkhorse membership discussions, new homeowner move-in fees, significant environmental issues, etc.). This requires participation from everyone—the Board, Staff, and Community Members. I am proposing a Community Voice committee that will work with the Board and Staff to identify new ways to ensure community members’ voices are heard and presented reasonably, efficiently, and respectfully to the board.
